Job summary

L3Harris Space and Mission Systems seeks an Embedded Software Engineer (Aerospace Flight) for its Wilmington, MA location to develop and optimize real-time embedded flight software for space-based imaging payloads. The role focuses on bare-metal C coding, servo control, and close collaboration with control engineers.

Responsibilities include designing, testing, and maintaining deterministic embedded software, integrating with hardware interfaces, and supporting system bring-up and verification

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; 4+ years experience, or 8+ years if no degree.
• TS/SCI security clearance possible/required.
• Embedded development on aerospace systems using C/C++.
• Bare-metal embedded systems programming without a full OS.
• Timing constraints, interrupt-driven design, memory-mapped I/O, optimization in constrained environments.
• DevOps practices and CI tools like Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain real-time embedded software in C for bare-metal hardware.
• Implement and optimize servo control algorithms up to 1 kHz update rates.
• Integrate control algorithms with hardware interfaces for closed-loop performance.
• Collaborate with algorithm teams to evaluate behavior and refine implementations.
• Analyze test data and debug real-time performance issues; improve latency and robustness.
• Participate in system bring-up, troubleshooting, and validation in lab/prototype environments.
• Contribute to software architecture, code reviews, and best practices for embedded development.
