Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking an embedded firmware engineer to design, develop and test real-time software for complex optical instruments in Newton, NJ. You will prototype, debug, and transfer firmware through manufacturing stages, coordinating with software teams and production to ensure reliability.

The role requires 3+ years in embedded firmware, an MS in EE or CE (or BS+5 years), and strong skills in C/C++, FreeRTOS, and hardware debugging. Competitive salary with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of embedded software / firmware and debugging experience.
• MS degree required; experience may substitute with BS + 5+ years.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded firmware to control optical, mechanical and electrical components.
• Design and support documentation including firmware operation and SDK definitions.
• Test procedures, fixtures, and qualification tests for products.
• Collaborate with software group to maximize functionality.
• Lead design from concept through prototyping to manufacturing.
• Manage project timeline and troubleshoot electronics issues.
• Develop test fixtures for manufacturing and assist production.
