Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a skilled Embedded Firmware Engineer in Newton, NJ to design, develop, and test firmware for complex instruments. You will create testing procedures, contribute to documentation, and work with manufacturing to bring concepts to production.

The role emphasizes troubleshooting and customer-focused solutions. You will use C/C++/C#, FreeRTOS, and real-time protocols (I2C/SPI/USB) to build robust firmware for optoelectronic systems, while coordinating with hardware and software

Qualifications

MS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering; BS with 5+ years experience acceptable.
3+ years’ experience with embedded software/firmware and debugging.
Strong knowledge of embedded hardware and microcontroller-based control and monitoring circuits.
Expert in C, C++, C# and FreeRTOS.
Experience with real-time I2C, SPI, USB protocols and oscilloscope use.

Responsibilities

Develop embedded firmware to control and monitor optical, mechanical, and electrical components.
Create and support firmware documentation, SDK definitions, source control, and end-user manuals.
Design tests and procedures to characterize products and ensure quality.
Collaborate with software group to maximize functionality and technology usage.
Take a concept from prototyping through debugging to manufacturing.
