Job summary

CSUN seeks a Computer-Aided Transcriber to provide real-time transcription for Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individuals in classrooms, conferences, and campus events using transcription software. You will convert spoken English into meaningful text displayed to the consumer.

The role requires speed typing, familiarity with ASR, confidentiality, and the ability to work in busy environments. Employment is on-campus, intermittent hours, July–June contract, with renewal potential.

Qualifications

• Certification in the applicable computer-aided transcribing system is required.
• Three months of experience providing computer-aided transcribing services, preferably in a higher education setting.

Responsibilities

• Provides real-time communication access services in classrooms and campus events.
• Assists consumers with concurrent participation by voicing questions or comments entered into the system.
• Uses speed typing, automatic speech recognition, and abbreviation strategies to produce real-time transcriptions.
• Captures all spoken content but omits false starts, repetitions, and non-meaningful speech.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
