Job summary

The City of Houston Legal Department seeks a paralegal to join its team at 900 Bagby. The role supports attorneys by drafting ordinances and contracts, maintaining files, and coordinating with client departments.

Ideal candidates will have a paralegal certificate, strong communication and organizational skills, and familiarity with Office 365 and legal research tools such as Westlaw Edge. Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and paralegal/legal assistant certification; associate degree preferred.
• Preferred familiarity with municipal/public law and Office 365 suite.
• Strong drafting, research, and organizational abilities.

Responsibilities

• Draft ordinances and contracts for attorney review and use.
• Maintain physical and electronic files.
• Communicate with client departments and section attorneys for updates.
• Manage case tracking and attorney workload.
• Perform basic legal research.
