Job summary

Transformco seeks an Associate General Counsel - Real Estate in Chicago to lead strategic legal support for acquisitions, leases, dispositions, and real estate-related litigation. You will supervise outside counsel, mentor junior staff, and liaise with Finance, Risk, and Development teams.

The role requires a JD, active bar license, 5–10 years in commercial real estate law, and a proven track record in negotiating contracts, due diligence, and risk management.

Qualifications

• Requires Juris Doctor (JD) with active bar admission
• 5–10 years of related real estate legal experience
• Experience negotiating real estate contracts and managing real estate transactions

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate real estate contracts including purchases, leases, and related instruments
• Advise on due diligence, title, zoning, and environmental issues
• Oversee closings for acquisitions, dispositions, and leases
• Manage real estate-related litigation and pre-litigation matters
• Direct outside counsel strategy and supervision to align with company goals and budget
• Provide guidance on compliance with real estate laws and regulations
• Mentor junior attorneys and paralegals in real estate matters
• Collaborate with Finance, Property Management, Development, and Risk teams
• Develop templates, contract management processes, and training for real estate legal support
• Support corporate real estate portfolio optimization initiatives
• Perform supervisory functions including hiring, performance appraisals, and coaching
