Job Overview

A READY Operations Assistant is responsible for supporting the successful implementation of stormwater management and landscaping projects, including conservation landscapes, rain gardens, and more. The Operations Assistant will work alongside the Landscape Foreman to coordinate and implement work plans for each day. They will also support ensuring that READY crew members and leaders have the skills and training necessary to complete their assignments correctly, safely, and on time. Additionally, the Operations Assistant maintains inventory of materials and supplies and supports transporting these materials to and from job sites.

Position Details

  • Reports to: Landscape Foreman

Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Assist with onboarding and training of READY program participants.
  2. Plan, execute, and assess daily crew activities to ensure adherence to project schedule.
  3. Coordinate the availability and transport of materials, plants, and supplies to job sites, organizing resources during project cycles.
  4. Verify and retrieve materials and supplies needed for daily project implementation.
  5. Pick up materials, plants, and supplies from vendors as needed.
  6. Support crew training and oversee project implementation, ensuring tasks are performed skillfully, safely, and timely.
  7. Read and interpret work plans, landscape designs, and planting plans to ensure proper execution.
  8. Oversee clean-up of job sites and proper disposal and storage of materials.
  9. Communicate daily progress and issues to the Landscape Foreman.
  10. Maintain tools, equipment, and storage spaces.
  11. Assist in construction and maintenance tasks as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be a Howard County Resident.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to drive a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and process improvement skills.
  • Dependability.
  • Experience in landscaping or environmental field work, especially construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various environments including forests and streams.
  • Ability to operate a truck with a utility trailer.
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with READY or UpLift programs.
  • Interest in outdoor activities.
  • Flexibility with changing daily tasks.

Wage: $19/hr

Benefits

  • Paid sick leave: 1 hour of Sick and Safe Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours/year. Starts accruing on first day; usable after 30 days employment.
  • Option to enroll in EcoWorks 401(k) plan.

Job Timeline

  • Start Date: 6/9/25
  • End Date: 8/15/25

This is a full-time, hourly, seasonal position. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including a half-hour unpaid lunch and two paid 15-minute breaks. No paid holidays, but July 4th observed. Weekend work may be available but is not mandatory. Weather may affect work hours. Indoor training and professional development may be offered on bad-weather days.
