Job summary

Dallas College is seeking a part-time Work Study Tutor to provide literacy tutoring to students on-site. Duties include one-on-one and small-group sessions, assisting with reading and comprehension, and maintaining progress records.

The role demands strong communication, patience, and the ability to work independently within a team. On-campus presence is required for academic positions, with potential hybrid arrangements after six months.

Qualifications

• Must be an undergraduate student awarded Federal Work-Study funds through FAFSA.
• Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
• Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (half-time).
• Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
• No outstanding balances or blocks on account.
• Reliable transportation to off-campus worksites (if applicable).
• Completion of required Dallas College professional development training.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring in reading, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Assist students with homework related to literacy.
• Engage students in reading activities, games, and discussions.
• Support the classroom teacher or program staff in creating a positive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and tutoring sessions.
• Communicate regularly with the site supervisor about student needs and progress.
• Adhere to site policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelines.
• Participate in required literacy instruction and child development trainings.
• Complete required Dallas College Professional Development hours per year.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
