Job summary

Learning a la Carte, a full-service tutoring company serving neurodivergent and neurotypical students across the DMV, seeks a math and reading specialist to support students during the school day and after school.

The role requires multisensory, explicit instruction and a strong ELA background aligned with the Science of Reading and Orton-Gillingham methodologies. You will travel to schools in Bethesda, NW DC and VA to deliver lessons and monitor progress.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching multisensory math to neurodivergent students (grades 5–12).
• Strong background in ELA instruction for language-based learning needs (dyslexia).
• Ability to deliver explicit, multisensory instruction and differentiate.
• Willingness to travel within the DMV to schools.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and monitor multisensory instruction aligned with best practices (i.e. CAM/CRA sequence).
• Provide ELA instruction using science of reading methodologies: reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary.
• Assess students’ progress, track outcomes, and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Collaborate with school staff and teachers as needed.
• Maintain documentation: lesson plans and progress reports.

Learning a la Carte is a full service tutoring company that serves neurodivergent and neurotypical students and families across the DMV. We are seeking highly skilled educators to support students during the school day and after school hours. We are seeking a math and reading specialist who can support students during the day and after school in Bethesda, NW DC and VA. Please DO NOT apply if you do not have specific training and experience to support students in structured literacy and or math.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and monitor multisensory instruction instruction aligned with best practices (i.e. Concrete-Representational-Abstract sequence, explicit language, manipulatives).
• Provide ELA instruction using the Science of Reading/Orton-Gillingham methodologies: reading (fluency, comprehension, decoding / phonics), writing, grammar, vocabulary.
• Assess students’ current levels, track progress, and adjust instruction.
• Collaborate with school staff / teachers as needed.
• Maintain documentation: lesson plans, progress reports, communication with families.

Required Qualifications

• Experience teaching Multisensory Math to neurodivergent students grades 5-12.
• Strong background in ELA instruction, especially for students with language-based learning needs (dyslexia, etc.).
• Comfortable with multisensory, explicit, structured instruction in both subjects.
• Excellent communication, patience, and ability to differentiate instruction.
• Reliable travel / transportation to schools in the DMV.

Preferred Qualifications

• Residency in the DMV area (DC / MD / VA).
• Flexibility & availability both during school hours and after school.
• Formal training or certification in Multisensory Math/Orton-Gilliingham/Science of Reading instruction.
• Experience with remedial reading and comprehension techniques and strategies (e.g., structured literacy, explicit comprehension strategy instruction, intervention methods).

• Subcontractor position (not direct employee).
