Job summary

Yorktown Central School District is seeking a Reading Teacher to join our staff as a leave replacement. Under the direction of the principal, you will provide direct literacy instruction to students, individually or in small groups, and serve as a literacy leader who coaches teachers in best practices for literacy instruction.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate the school's literacy intervention program.
• Collaborate with teachers to identify literacy needs, set goals, and develop best practices.
• Assist teachers with data collection, analysis, and sharing findings with staff.
• Place students in appropriate reading/writing interventions and support services.
• Deliver targeted literacy instruction to small groups daily.
• Assist students with literacy software and materials.
• Plan literacy instruction with classroom teachers to meet individual student needs.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office.

Minimum Qualifications

Primary Activities

• Coordinate and facilitate the school's literacy intervention program.
• Collaborate with teachers individually to identify the literacy needs of students, to set learning goals and targets, and to problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students in literacy.
• Assist teachers with the collection of data, analysis of data results and supports the sharing of findings with all staff.
• Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services.
• Teach targeted literacy intervention to small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources.
• Assist students using software and materials related to literacy programs.
• Meet regularly with the classroom teacher to plan literacy instruction that correlates with the individual student's needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.
• Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students' progress.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Salary Range

Days 1-20=$133/diem; Day 20 onward 1/200 of step placement on corresponding salary schedule. Range: $64,175 - $139,655 (2026/2027)
