Job summary

Universities of Wisconsin is seeking a Reading/Math Tutor for UW-Superior's off-campus Work Study program. This student hourly role supports elementary students in reading and math through small group or one-on-one tutoring during school hours.

The position offers 5–15 hours per week with a fixed $11.00/hour wage and requires eligibility for Work Study. Training and ongoing collaboration with classroom staff are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in the University of Wisconsin and eligible for the Work Study Program.
• Demonstrate competent tutoring skills in curriculum subject areas K-5.
• Demonstrate mature judgment in making student behavior management strategies.
• Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain rapport and maintain appropriate communications with students and staff.
• Demonstrate ability to motivate children and build student self-esteem through positive interpersonal relationships.

Responsibilities

• Follows teacher/administration directives to deliver tutoring services to individual students or small groups to reinforce learning materials and/or participate in activities.
• Assists staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or content-level skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
• Instructs students on operation and care of equipment used for tutorial purposes.
• Assists the students in the library, in the classroom, or in other settings.
• Follows directions of instructional staff in monitoring student progress and assists in administering student assessments as needed.
• Follows teacher instructions in assisting in the preparation of instructional materials.
• Capable on a continuous basis: standing, sitting, reaching, grasping, bending, stopping, twisting; repetitive movement of both hands and feet; seeing with both near and far visual acuity.
• Capable on a frequent basis: walking and moving; climb stairs
• Capable on an occasional basis: pushing; pulling; lifting to 25# floor to waist, waist to shoulders and shoulders to overhead
