Job Description

Primary Purpose: Work with small groups of children identified as at‑risk in assigned core subjects. Work closely with campus administration and faculty, as well as parents, to ensure student learning and academic success.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree required; Texas teacher certificate in appropriate area.
  • Special Knowledge/Skills: Proficient understanding of curriculum and instruction; strong evaluative and assessment skills of student data; strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills; calm and patient demeanor with staff, students and others; knowledge of subjects assigned; ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Experience: At least five years experience as a classroom teacher.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assess children throughout the school and identify children at risk.
  • Design and implement academic interventions using research-based methodology.
  • Communicate with school personnel and parents of children regarding reading and/or math level and rate of progress.
  • Gather, compile, and disaggregate data; and link that data to student learning and instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction based on assessment data.
  • Document interventions and progress on each child.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
  • Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and move throughout the facilities. Duties also require repetitive hand motions, prolonged use of computer, moderate standing, stooping, bending, lifting/transporting of up to 50lbs, frequent district-wide and occasional state-wide travel, and occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions; maintain emotional control under stress; maintain a clear focus on customer service; ability to manage others in a non-coercive manner.
