Job summary

Wissahickon Charter School is seeking a Literacy Specialist for our Awbury campus for the 2026-27 school year. The Literacy Specialist is responsible for supporting students in 3rd-8th grades who are in need of additional literacy intervention.

Literacy Specialists are also expected to communicate regularly with teachers and parents about those students’ growth. The ideal candidate will have 4 or more years of experience teaching literacy in relevant grade(s), some experience coaching literacy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of literacy teaching experience.
  • Experience coaching literacy and leading school-wide literacy initiatives.
  • Reading Specialist certification in Pennsylvania preferred.
  • Knowledge of current literacy curricula and science of reading.
  • Experience teaching in urban settings.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct student literacy support for 3rd-8th grades with progress monitoring.
  • Provide small group and individualized literacy interventions.
  • Communicate progress to parents and collaborate with teachers.
  • Coordinate schedule aligned to student and classroom needs.
  • Support literacy screeners and implement school-wide literacy activities.
  • Coach teachers in literacy and model instruction.
