Job summary

Sylvan Learning Center is seeking enthusiastic Reading and Writing Teachers for after-school tutoring. You will deliver pre-planned lessons in small groups of up to three students, focusing on reading, writing, and English across multiple grade levels.

Bring a four-year degree and teaching credentials; experience and phonics knowledge are preferred. We offer flexible part-time hours, paid training, and opportunities for professional development in a supportive environment that values student

Qualifications

  • Four year degree or equivalent preferred.
  • State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired).
  • Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of tablet computers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead instruction in reading and writing for elementary to high school students.
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons in small groups (no more than 3 students).
  • Motivate and support students to achieve academic success.
  • Work with flexible, part-time scheduling.

Job description

Reading and Writing Teachers Wanted for Fun After-School Tutoring!

Sylvan Learning Center is looking for fun, dedicated teachers to help and inspire students. We are currently looking for elementary, middle school, and high school reading and English tutors who are able to teach reading and writing at a variety of grade levels.

Sylvan creates individualized learning plans for students of all abilities. Working with well-behaved groups of only three students, our reading, writing and English tutors are responsible for leading instruction and motivating students to be successful. There are no lesson plans to create, no homework to grade, no parent-conferencing, and scheduling is flexible. Enjoy all of the benefits of teaching ELA, without any of the downsides!

What you should know
  • If you enjoy teaching, working with, and inspiring students, this is the job for you. (We want you to be happy here!)
  • You will use pre-planned lessons. They are straightforward, easy to manage, and fun to teach
  • Teach students in a small group setting. There will be no more than 3 students per teacher
  • Most teachers choose to work 2-5 days/week
  • This is NOT a remote position
