Medical Oncology – Gastrointestinal (GI) & Lymphoma Research Unit

Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week, worked over 5 days

The GI & Lymphoma Research Unit is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Practitioner to join our research team on a one-year fixed-term contract.

The Assistant Practitioner is a valued member of the multidisciplinary research team, supporting registered nurses and other clinical staff in the delivery of high-quality clinical and research care to patients participating in clinical trials and research studies.

The role involves direct contact with patients and their families and requires the postholder to demonstrate compassion, empathy, dignity and sensitivity at all times.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Lead/Senior Research Nursing team and Senior Assistant Practitioner within the GI & Lymphoma Unit.

They will assist with the provision of clinical and research care for study participants in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Trust policies, and all applicable regulatory and governance requirements.

The Assistant Practitioner is an essential valued member of the unit team appointed to support Registered Nurses (RN) in the delivery of patient care. The role involves contact on a physical and psychological level with patients and their families.

The post holder will undertake a range of activities under the supervision of a registered nurse, having been assessed and deemed competent in the activities required.

As part of a multidisciplinary team the post holder will contribute to the efficient service provision by providing clerical, clinical and sample processing support and will take a lead on the handling and storage of tissue samples and survival follow up of long term clinical trials.
