Job summary

Upstart is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build high-quality mobile apps using React Native, collaborating with product, design, and backend teams to deliver features that delight users and align with company goals.

You will contribute to a fast-moving, pragmatic engineering culture while expanding our mobile platform across iOS and Android, with on-going emphasis on performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or related field, plus 4 years of experience.
• Experience building in React Native and familiarity with at least one native platform (iOS or Android).
• Effective communication with product, design, and backend teams.
• Ownership of complex features from planning through release.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain user-facing features in React Native across iOS and Android.
• Design mobile components that are performant, maintainable, and scalable.
• Collaborate with product and design teams to scope, implement, and launch features.
• Contribute to tooling, testing strategies, CI/CD, and performance monitoring.
• Define mobile APIs with backend engineers and improve client-server patterns.
• Identify and resolve performance or reliability issues in mobile apps.
• Participate in code reviews and technical planning to raise quality.
• Mentor teammates and strengthen mobile engineering culture.
