Job summary

Upstart is seeking a Principal Mobile Engineer on the Cash Line team to own the mobile codebase, specialize in React Native, and lead the Android launch on an ambitious timeline. You will balance RN and native Android depth to shape long-term mobile architecture.

You will influence product and engineering through mentorship, design reviews, and cross-team collaboration, delivering high-quality mobile experiences while maintaining performance and reliability across platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building and shipping mobile applications with React Native and TypeScript.
• Strong native Android depth in Kotlin and/or Java.
• Proven track record leading cross-team mobile initiatives and launches.
• Experience shipping consumer-facing mobile products at scale with focus on performance and UX.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary mobile engineer and React Native specialist for the Cash Line team, raising quality, scalability, and velocity of the mobile codebase.
• Lead Android development for the team and deliver the Android launch plan this year.
• Set technical direction for the team’s mobile architecture across React Native and native Android.
• Partner with product, design, and engineering to translate roadmap priorities into durable mobile solutions.
• Mentor and lead through design reviews and pragmatic execution in high-visibility spaces.
• After launch, continue as the mobile specialist, supporting the full Cash Line stack.
