Job summary

Bowhead seeks an ISSE / Systems Security Engineer to support a government program in Dahlgren, VA. The role focuses on information assurance, secure system design, and continuous monitoring across RDTE environments.

Collaboration with Code 104 teams and ISSMs is essential to ensure alignment with cybersecurity requirements. The candidate will develop policies, perform vulnerability tracking, and produce risk analyses, while advancing automated security processes.

Qualifications

• Five (5)+ years of relevant experience in systems security engineering or ISSE roles.
• DoD security and IA requirements per DoDI 8500.2 and DISA STIG.
• DoD 8570 Information Assurance Management Level II certification.
• Strong ability to communicate with all levels of employees and external contacts.
• Experience with security assessment tools and security control testing.

Responsibilities

• Assist with developing, interpreting, and maintaining cybersecurity policies and IA guidance.
• Support continuous monitoring, log analysis, vulnerability tracking, and risk mitigation coordination.
• Design and refine repeatable cybersecurity processes for lifecycle security and compliance.
• Identify automation opportunities for configuration validation, compliance reporting, and testing workflows.
• Produce clear technical communications, documentation, and risk analyses for leadership and engineers.
• Serve as liaison between Code 104 and 1043 ISSMs to align security requirements and changes.
