Job summary

Halliburton Sperry Technology R&D Facilities in Houston invites electrical/computer engineering students for a hands-on internship. Projects span digital, analog, and mixed-signal design, with in-house development from concept to commercialization, under guidance of senior engineers.

Internships run 10–14 weeks, full-time on-site, with a summer 2027 start around May 23, 2027. Optional relocation assistance and corporate housing are available for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Students enrolled in Electrical or Computer Engineering with GPA 3.0+.
• Completed at least one semester of core EE coursework.

Responsibilities

• Designs digital, analog and mixed-signal circuits.
• Simulates and models using LTSpice, Matlab, ModelSim.
• PCB layout, prototype assembly and testing.
• Proficient in lab equipment usage.
• Embedded C for microcontrollers, DSPs and FPGAs.
• Power electronics and motor control design.
• Understand I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB protocols.
• Verilog/VHDL for digital logic.
• Develop PC applications interfacing with lab equipment.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and scientists.

What You’ll Do…

These positions are located at our Sperry Technology R&D Facilities in Houston, Texas. At Sperry Drilling Technology interns get core electrical engineering experience as most systems are developed in-house from the grounds up. With various development projects underway from concept to commercialization, interns get the opportunity to work hands-on on actual projects under the guidance of senior engineers and scientists.

Intern program philosophy is to “recruit once, hire twice” with the hope to hire interns back into full-time or return internship roles.

The internship program assignments are 10-14 weeks in duration and are full-time internships on-site. The summer 2027 internship is expected to begin on or around May 23, 2027.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Projects you could potentially work on, and skills include:

• Digital, analog and mixed signal circuit design
• Simulation and modeling using applications such as LTSpice, Matlab, ModelSim.
• Circuit schematic, printed circuit board layout, prototype assembly and testing
• Proficiency in using advanced lab equipment
• Well conversant in C, embedded programming for a variety of microcontrollers, DSPs and FPGAs
• Power electronics, power supply design topologies, motor control and control systems
• Understanding of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, etc. High speed communication protocols such as Ethernet and USB
• Digital logic design and knowledge in Verilog or VHDL
• PC applications development in C#, Python, etc., that interface with lab equipment and embedded processors

What You’ll Bring to Our Team

Required Qualifications:

• Students enrolled in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Bachelor, Master and PhDs with a major GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Student has completed at least one semester of core electrical engineering course work and exhibit aptitude towards practical engineering work
• Strong analytical and technical skills

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior intern, co-op, or research experience
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated and results-oriented
• Strong problem-solving abilities

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. To qualify, your university and/or permanent address must be more than 50 miles from your work location.

Salary Range:

$26/hour for students pursuing aBachelor’sdegree; $31/hour for students pursuing aMaster’sdegree; $36/hour for students pursuing a PhD
