Responsibilities

  • Support daily Patient Access operations to ensure efficient workflows and exceptional customer service.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for team members regarding operational questions and workflow issues.
  • Identify and resolve operational barriers that impact patient access and experience.
  • Promote compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Create and maintain department schedules to ensure staffing coverage.
  • Monitor staffing needs and adjust schedules to meet operational demands.
  • Coordinate shift coverage and staffing assignments.
  • Lead by example with professional behavior and customer service.
  • Track performance metrics and provide coaching to team members.
  • Audit registration, insurance verification, consent, and financial clearance processes.
  • Generate and analyze reports on productivity and quality for leadership.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Drive continuous improvement and staff development.

Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody these values to join our Patient Access team in the role of RCS Team Lead. This position will work onsite at Bedford Hospital, Monday - Friday (with on call requirements nights/weekends), 9:00am – 5:30pm.

This position plays a critical role in supporting system-wide Patient Access operations by ensuring quality, accountability, operational efficiency, and a positive experience for both patients and team members.

This position is responsible for leadership of assigned teams within IU Health Revenue Cycle Services. Ensures high quality standardized work processes that result in consistent outcomes that compare favorably with relevant national benchmarks. Serves as the first tier escalation for team members on task oriented problems or issues, and supports management in promotion of staff development and the allocation and coordination of daily work.

Minimum Candidate Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience with Indiana University Health Revenue Cycle Services strongly preferred.

  • Requires expert knowledge of revenue cycle requirements and regulations.

  • Requires a high level of interpersonal, problem solving, and analytic skills.

  • Requires effective written and verbal communication skills in both individual and group settings.

  • Requires the ability to promote teamwork and develop team members.

  • Requires the ability to take initiative and meet objectives.

Preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Previous Patient Access, Registration, Revenue Cycle, or Healthcare Operations experience required.

  • Prior leadership, mentoring, or team lead experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and patient access systems.

  • Ability to analyze reports, identify trends, and drive performance improvement.

  • Participate in the department's on-call rotation and provide leadership support during off-hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Monitor team member productivity, quality, attendance, and performance metrics.

  • Utilize reporting tools to track individual and team performance against established goals.

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and support to help team members achieve performance expectations.

  • Escalate performance concerns and trends to leadership as appropriate.

Auditing & Quality Assurance
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with registration standards, insurance verification requirements, consent completion, financial clearance processes, and other departmental expectations.

  • Review audit findings with team members and provide education and coaching opportunities.

  • Track audit results and identify opportunities for process improvement and staff development.

Reporting & Analytics
  • Generate and analyze operational reports related to productivity, quality, patient access metrics, and departmental goals.

  • Monitor key performance indicators and communicate results to leadership.

  • Assist with identifying trends and implementing action plans to improve department performance.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members.

  • Encourage a culture of accountability, teamwork, excellence, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead by example through professional behavior, effective communication, and strong customer service.

  • Assist with departmental projects, initiatives, and workflow changes as assigned.
