Job summary

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking a qualified Ranch Assistant for a well-established Kansas ranch operation. The role focuses on cattle care, day-to-day ranch operations, and hands-on equipment use on a large, 10,000-acre property with 750–800 head of cattle.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, communicative with management, and eager to assume increasing responsibility to grow with the operation. Housing is provided, and compensation is competitive based on experience and references.

Qualifications

• Solid hands-on experience with a commercial cow/calf operation.
• Good knowledge of cattle handling, feeding, calving, processing, doctoring, herd health, and general livestock care.
• Strong equipment operating skills, particularly with tractors, feeding equipment, swathers, rakes, round balers, and other hay and ranch equipment.
• Experience with hay production and putting up quality forage.
• Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance, servicing, and general repairs.
• Welding, fabrication, fence construction, and fence repair skills are a definite plus.
• Must be a self-starter who recognizes what needs to be done and takes the initiative to get it accomplished.
• Must be trustworthy, dependable, honest, responsible, and hardworking.
• Need someone who takes pride in the care of livestock, equipment, facilities, and ranch property.
• Ability to work independently while communicating well and working closely with management.
• Must be willing to jump into all areas of the ranch operation whenever help is needed.
• Looking for someone with a genuine passion for cattle, agriculture, and the ranching lifestyle.
• Prefer an individual interested in putting down roots and becoming a long-term part of the operation.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Responsibilities will include all aspects of cow/calf production, including feeding, calving, processing, doctoring, herd health, cattle movement, pasture work, and general livestock care.
• The individual hired needs to be comfortable working cattle, capable of recognizing animal health issues, and willing to take responsibility for getting things done correctly and on time.
• In addition to livestock responsibilities, this individual will be involved with hay and forage production, operating tractors, swathers, rakes, balers, and related hay equipment.
• Other responsibilities will include equipment servicing and routine maintenance, general mechanical repairs, fencing, facility maintenance, water systems, and pasture work.
• Welding and fabrication abilities would be valuable.
