Job summary

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT seeks a Ranch Assistant for a Nebraska Sandhills operation. You will be the owner's right-hand man, managing a separate ranch unit day-to-day with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate has a strong cow/calf background, experience with calving, fencing, hay production, and equipment. Housing, utilities, a work vehicle, health insurance, and vacation are provided.

This role offers independence in a rural setting and opportunities to grow within the ranching operation.

Qualifications

• Strong cow/calf ranch background required.
• Experience with calving, feeding, and cattle health.
• Fencing experience including electric fence.
• Hay production experience.
• Backgrounding experience preferred.
• Good mechanical ability for routine maintenance and repairs.
• Strong decision-making, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily care of 300-400 cows, including calving, feeding, and doctoring.
• Assist with and manage backgrounding cattle as needed.
• Handle all aspects of fencing, including electric fence.
• Oversee hay production, including baling and feeding.
• Operate equipment (tractors, balers, loaders, etc.).
• Perform routine maintenance and general repairs.
• Maintain water systems and general ranch infrastructure.
• Work cattle horseback when needed (availability of horses is a plus).
• Maintain basic records and communicate regularly with ownership.
