Job summary

BNSF Railway in Kansas City, KS, is seeking a Mechanical Shop Laborer to assist skilled mechanics with maintenance and repair of locomotives and equipment. This full-time role supports safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement in a 24/7 shop.

You will train on the job, work a union-based shift schedule, and help keep work areas clean while operating tools and basic machinery. Travel is minimal, and relocation is not offered.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and able to work now or in the future without employer sponsorship.
• Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Must be able to work the designated shift/hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Keep work areas clean and orderly and operate maintenance equipment in a shop environment.
• Operate forklift, mobile crane, track mobile, shop tractor, and power hand tools.
• Sand, fueling, and cleaning locomotives and maintain organized shop areas.
• Operate power-driven equipment such as a vacuum cleaner, electric broom, or steam cleaning gun.
• Work in a safety-sensitive environment with diverse and extreme weather and loud conditions.
• Follow safety policies, wear required PPE, and adhere to regulations.
