Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a Contractor in Charge (CIC) in Lewiston, ME. This safety-focused role oversees construction, maintenance, and compliance for freight railroads, transit systems, and state DOTs.

The CIC conducts job briefings, enforces FRA regulations (49 CFR 214), coordinates train movements, and ensures work is performed safely within limits. Travel is extensive, with 50–85% expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in maintenance of way or TY&E departments.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Strong communication, computer, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• A safety-focused contractor responsible for overseeing worksite safety and providing flagging services as needed in place of railroad personnel.
• Conducts job briefings and ensures compliance with Federal Railroad Administration regulations (49 CFR 214).
• Monitors track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to keep personnel safely clear of active tracks and equipment.
• Communicates with train dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors via radio, phone, or electronic systems to coordinate train movements.
• Documents all activities, including job briefings, incident reports, daily work logs, and forms for management and regulatory agencies.
• Enforces all Railroad, State, and Federal Policies.
