Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a Contractor in Charge (CIC) in South Bend, IN to oversee safety-focused construction, maintenance, and compliance for railroads, transit systems, and state DOTs.

You will lead on-site safety, provide flagging services as needed, conduct job briefings, and ensure adherence to FRA regulations (49 CFR 214) while coordinating with dispatchers and crews. This role requires travel up to 85% and a valid driver’s license; a high school diploma or

Qualifications

• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Communicates effectively in verbal and written formats.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably maintenance of way or TY&E.
• Successfully completes all required federal, client, and company training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging services as needed.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure compliance with FRA regulations (49 CFR 214).
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities for safety.
• Coordinate with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors via radio/phone.
• Document activities, including briefings, incident reports, logs, and forms.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
