Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a dedicated Contractor in Charge to oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners in Yakima, WA.

The CIC will supervise safety-focused operations, conduct job briefings, and ensure FRA compliance during work near tracks. Travel is 50%–85% with a strong emphasis on safety and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Communicates effectively in both verbal and written formats.
• Successfully completes all required federal, client, and company-specific training.

Responsibilities

• Safety-focused contractor responsible for overseeing worksite safety and providing flagging services as needed.
• Conducts job briefings and ensures compliance with FRA regulations (49 CFR 214).
• Monitors track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to keep personnel safe.
• Communicates with train dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate train movements and permissions.
• Documents all activities, including job briefings, incident reports, logs, and forms for management and regulators.
• Enforces Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
