Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a Contractor in Charge (CIC) in Redding, CA to oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for rail projects.

The CIC ensures all work within rights-of-way is performed safely and regulates flagging services as needed. Responsibilities include safety briefings, FRA compliance (49 CFR 214), monitoring track conditions, coordinating with train crews, and rigorous record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Communicates effectively in both verbal and written formats.
• Ability for long-term travel assignments, including multi-month deployments.
• Valid Driver's License
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company preferably in the maintenance of way or TY&E departments
• Successfully completes all required federal, client, and company-specific training.

Responsibilities

• Safety-focused contractor responsible for overseeing worksite safety and providing flagging services as needed in place of railroad personnel.
• Conducting job briefings and ensuring full compliance with FRA regulations during work performed within arm's length of the track.
• Monitoring track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to ensure personnel remain safely clear of active tracks and equipment.
• Coordinate train movements with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors via radio, phone, or electronic systems within working limits.
• Document all activities, including job briefings, incident reports, daily logs, and forms for management and regulatory agencies.
• Enforce all Railroad, State, and Federal Policies.
