Job summary

DavRail is seeking a hands-on Machine Operator in Texas to safely operate and maintain specialized railroad maintenance equipment in field and shop settings. The role involves significant travel, inspections, minor repairs, and coordination with customers and supervisors.

You will read and follow safety manuals, work with basic drawings, and use computers for scheduling. A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Experience operating heavy equipment and related machinery.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read safety manuals, operating instructions and maintenance procedures; understand simple drawings.
• Effective English communication and basic computer proficiency, including email and MS Office.
• Willingness to work independently, follow safety procedures and pass employment screenings.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate portable wheel lathes, backhoes, excavators (trackhoes), dozers, loaders, skid steers, and other DavRail equipment.
• Inspect, set up, maintain and operate equipment for railroad wheel maintenance.
• Conduct inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs within training.
• Assist with equipment mobilization, setup, breakdown, and transportation to job sites.
• Operate company vehicles safely and comply with driving requirements.
• Coordinate with customers, supervisors and coworkers to understand job requirements and report progress.
• Follow safety rules; wear PPE and report hazards.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and remove debris at remote job sites.
• Document inspections, maintenance and completed work; use computers for scheduling and communications.
