Job summary

RailWorks is seeking an Equipment Operator to run heavy equipment at railroad sites, assisting with construction, repair, and maintenance tasks. The role is described as novice level and requires safe, efficient operation and adherence to company safety programs.

Responsibilities include inspecting and operating backhoes and loaders, coordinating with crew, keeping logs, and reporting findings to the foreman. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment.
• Driver's license and reliable transportation; ability to travel.
• Knowledge of safety requirements and procedures.
• Ability to read construction specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, maintains, and operates maintenance equipment such as backhoes and loaders.
• Operates equipment to move, load, or unload material or perform other rail maintenance tasks.
• Operates equipment safely and efficiently per regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Avoids hazards and obstructions, including utility lines and other workers.
• Communicates with the crew using hand signals while operating equipment.
• Keeps records of material and equipment usage and problems encountered.
• Performs equipment safety, maintenance, and brake checks.
• Fills out daily inspection reports for foreman.
