• Willingness and ability to obtain locomotive engineer certification following conductor certification.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
• Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math.
• Learn from directions and observations to apply procedures with good judgment.
• Assist in inspection of locomotive(s) before running to verify fuel, sand, water, and other requirements.
• Read and interpret switching orders and observe signals to operate locomotives.
• Communicate with crews via radio to convey switching information.
• Assist with making minor repairs to couplings, air hoses, and report major issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
