Job summary

AEP Generating Company is seeking a Maintenance/Operations/Railcar Mechanic in Metropolis, IL to perform railcar inspections, wheel and brake work, and related plant duties. You will operate heavy equipment and assist with coal handling and barge operations while following safety and regulatory guidelines.

The role requires welding experience, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license, with preferred welding certificates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and/or GED.
• Two years welding and cutting experience.
• Knowledge of railcar maintenance rules and clearance procedures.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to read complex drawings and prints.
• Welding and cutting certificate/degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect railcars and replace wheel sets and brake assemblies.
• Perform railcar maintenance per AAR and FRA rules.
• Operate equipment for barge loading and coal handling.
• Lift up to 50 pounds and perform rigging.
• Train others as needed.
• Monitor conveyor and plant equipment for fire and dust suppression.
