Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Railcar Mechanic in Metropolis, IL to perform coal transloading and railcar maintenance tasks. You will inspect, repair, and service railcars, operate related equipment, and support facility operations while adhering to AAR/FRA rules and safety standards.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of welding and cutting experience, with a valid driver's license and welding certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of welding and cutting experience and knowledge of railcar maintenance safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Attend and participate in job safety assessments.
• Wear proper PPE for each task.
• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Inspect and repair railcars: wheel sets, brake assemblies, safety appliances per AAR/FRA rules.
• Perform deckhand duties for barge handling and operate heavy equipment for coal piles and barges.
