Job summary

Mendocino Railway is hiring a Railbike Mechanic in Fort Bragg, CA. This part-time role involves inspecting, maintaining, and repairing railbikes to ensure safe guest experiences on the Skunk Train network.

The ideal candidate has experience with bicycles or small engines, strong mechanical aptitude, and comfort using hand tools and maintenance records. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience repairing bicycles, small engines, or similar mechanical systems.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with small hand tools for repair and maintenance.
• Familiarity with tools, parts ordering, and maintenance documentation and tracking.
• Ability to work independently and manage maintenance tasks efficiently.
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical issues quickly and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and preventative maintenance.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
• Strong verbal and written communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily inspections of railbikes and running gear for safe operation.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on railbikes (brakes, chains, pedals, frames).
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues with railbikes and equipment.
• Maintain and organize tools, parts inventory, and maintenance records.
• Clean and prepare railbikes and gear for guest use.
• Assist operations staff with bike staging and daily departures.
