Job summary

North County Transit District is seeking an Overhaul and Repair Mechanic to diagnose, maintain, repair, rebuild, and test buses, trains, and support vehicles in a shop environment. This Safety‑Sensitive role requires hands-on expertise with powertrains, electrical, hydraulic, and climate systems.

You will work at multiple sites, travel as needed, and participate in safety training and compliance with FRA/FTA/DOT rules. Strong reading of schematics and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and diesel-powered heavy equipment (such as diesel trucks, locomotives, rail cars/coaches, rail transit vehicles and buses).
• Must be able to pass physical characteristics examinations and maintain required safety certifications.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, overhaul, and test buses, trains, and support vehicles.
• Disassemble and rebuild components such as power plants, transmissions, and braking systems.
• Repair and calibrate gauges and meters; maintain and repair lighting and safety circuits.
• Operate shop equipment and comply with FRA/FTA/DOT safety standards.
