Job summary

North County Transit District (NCTD) is seeking an Overhaul and Repair Mechanic to diagnose, maintain, repair, rebuild, and test rail and bus equipment. The role involves major disassembly, component replacement, and periodic inspections in a shop and on-site environment.

You will work under supervision, travel between district sites, and perform safety-sensitive tasks with strict adherence to FRA/FTA/DOT standards. Night and weekend shifts may be required to support maintenance needs.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in maintenance and repair of automotive and diesel-powered heavy equipment.
• California driver’s license Class C with clean record.
• Familiarity with rail transit equipment and safety standards is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting, repair, overhauling, and inspection of NCTD bus, train, and support vehicle equipment.
• Remove, repair, rebuild, and install components such as engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
• Install and adjust sub-components on engines and calibrate gauges.
• Maintain lighting, safety, and environmental control systems.
• Enter data into maintenance management system and prepare reports.
• Ensure compliance with FRA/FTA/DOT and NCTD standards.
• Work at multiple sites with varying schedules; night/weekend work may be required.
