Job summary
Cando Rail & Terminals is seeking Switchman/Conductors to perform safe rail car switching in outdoor environments. You will work in teams to maximize efficiency and safety, with a focus on initiative and organization.
Ideal candidates bring prior locomotive/switch experience, reliable transportation, and a strong work ethic. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and excellent customer service in a fast-paced setting.
Qualifications
- Experience as locomotive operator or switch person preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Strong leadership and team-leading abilities.
- Valid state driver's license required.
- Reliable transportation.
- Solid work ethic.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe operation of locomotive and train movements; conduct clear job briefings.
- Follow rules, instructions and switching procedures; operate switches, derails, and manage air hoses.
- Provide protection of train, track and equipment.
- Perform plant and equipment inspections, including air brake tests.
- Comply with operating rules and safety practices; promote safe work habits.
- Keep locomotive interior clean and tidy.
- Complete daily locomotive brake and safety device tests.
- Maintain daily reports and logs for customer or Cando.
- Work with team to provide excellent customer service and promote the company image.
- Participate in training and company initiatives.
