Job summary

Cando Rail & Terminals in Gregory, TX is seeking a Switchman/Conductor to provide safe, efficient rail car switching services outdoors in a fast-paced environment. You’ll work in a team to maximize safety and reliability, while upholding a strong safety culture and customer focus.

Responsibilities include operating locomotives, coupling/uncoupling cars, inspecting brakes and equipment, completing daily logs, and maintaining a tidy locomotive interior.

Qualifications

• Experience operating locomotives or working as a switchman is preferred.
• Ability to read and write safety briefings, policy manuals, and switching lists.
• Must be physically fit to climb railcars, handle hoses, and operate switches and derails.
• Must be able to obtain required certification and pass drug/alcohol and medical clearances.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation of locomotive and train movements, including briefings.
• Apply rules, instructions, and switching procedures while operating locomotives or as ground personnel.
• Provide protection of train, track, and equipment.
• Perform plant and equipment inspections, including brake tests.
• Comply with operating rules, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Keep locomotive interior safe and clean; maintain logs and reports.
• Contribute to teamwork and deliver excellent customer service.
