Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is hiring a Switchman in Baton Rouge, LA. You will play a key role in safely operating rail equipment to ensure freight reaches customers efficiently.

The company provides hands-on and classroom training, and you will work outdoors in all weather, with opportunities for growth within a dynamic rail environment. This full-time position requires flexibility for nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call shifts, and entails physical tasks such as lifting and climbing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Age 18+ years.

Responsibilities

• Comply with federal, state, and railroad safety and operational regulations.
• Communicate with customers and team members using signals or radio instructions.
• Operate track switches to determine train routes.
• Evaluate, plan, and complete assigned work safely and efficiently.
• Inspect railcars and read/understand rule books.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
