Job summary

Lochner in East Hartford, CT is seeking a Structures–Rail Project Engineer to support planning, design, and delivery of rail and transit infrastructure. Focus areas include bridges, culverts, retaining walls, stations, and related facilities.

The role requires a BS in Civil/Structural Engineering, 5–10 years in structural engineering (rail/transport preferred), and a PE license or ability to obtain. Proficiency in SAP2000/STAAD/LARSA and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, preferably rail/transport.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles and materials (steel, concrete, prestressed).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support structural design for rail-related infrastructure projects (bridges, culverts, stations).
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for integrated project delivery.
  • Perform structural analysis using SAP2000, STAAD, LARSA or similar.
  • Ensure compliance with AREMA, AASHTO, ASTM, and local/state standards.
  • Support project management tasks including budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and condition assessments; mentor junior engineers.
