Job summary

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking an Assistant Signal Worker to help install, repair, and maintain railroad signals and grade crossing warning systems. You will work with diverse equipment to support safe, efficient freight movement across North America.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to supervise others.
• Strong planning and organizational abilities.
• Commitment to safety rules and safe work habits.
• Basic arithmetic operations including fractions/decimals.
• Ability to extract information from tables/charts/text.
• Knowledge of fundamental mechanical principles.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must complete an English assessment before interview.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough inspections and testing of signal circuitry, equipment, and systems to identify and resolve issues and defects.
• Assemble, disassemble, troubleshoot, and repair signal crossing warning device equipment.
• Construct, install, maintain, repair, and replace signal communication circuitry, systems, and components.
• Use machines, tools, vehicles, and equipment safely and keep work areas clean.
• Operate company vehicles and travel across the designated geographic territory.
• Demonstrate proactive behavior and own tasks to ensure quality and timely completion.
• Foster positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, contractors, and customers; manage conflicts.
• Adhere to safety, operational, and FRA regulations and guidelines.
• Perform any additional duties as required.
