Job summary

RSI Logistics, recently acquired by Trinity Industries, Inc., seeks a Railcar Shop Coordinator to manage railcar shipments to/from and between origins and shops. The role focuses on timely, successful shipments for maintenance, qualifications, and cleaning, while mitigating disruptions.

Interacting with clients, railroads, and shops, the coordinator works in a professional office environment, requiring mechanical aptitude and decisive decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management or related field.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in rail operations or rail logistics coordination.
  • OTMA/Hazmat certification preferred.
  • ERP experience or Rail TMS/SAP software experience highly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure railcars moving to/from shops have proper billing instructions applied.
  • Troubleshoot billing issues; knowledge of bill of lading, EDI terminology, and rail routing options is critical.
  • Monitor railcar movement; intervene in a timely manner if out of route or delayed.
  • Open escalation logs with railroads; track communications and issues to close.
  • Collaborate with client and car owners to ensure shopping instructions are accurate and complete.
  • Create bills of lading and/or diversion requests to move railcars from client facilities to home shops.
  • Work closely with maintenance coordinators to align maintenance priorities and escalate issues.

RSI Logistics, recently acquired by Trinity Industries Inc., is looking for a Railcar Shop Coordinator. The Shop Coordinator’s primary objective is to manage and enhance thecoordination and monitoring of railcar shipments to/from and between origin and shops. Moregenerally, maximized timely and successful shipments of railcars for maintenance,qualifications, and/or cleaning. On an ongoing basis, mitigates service disruptions, and
optimizes shipments to minimize out of service time of the railcar.

The Shop Coordinator will interact directly with the client, railroads, railcar shops, railcarowners, and other RSI personnel. The role operates in a professional office environment andrequires mechanical aptitude and decision-making skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure railcars moving to/from shops have proper billing instructions applied.
  • Troubleshoot billing issues in a timely manner. Knowledge of bill of ladingrequirements, basic EDI terminology, and rail routing options is critical to perform thistask.
  • Monitor railcar movement, identify railcars moving out of route or not in a timelymanner, and intervene in a timely manner.
  • Open escalation logs with the railroads where necessary, track all communication andtrack issues to close. Communication escalations internally.
  • Collaborate with client and car owners to ensure shopping instructions are accurate andcomplete.
  • Create bills of lading and/or diversion requests to move the railcar(s) from client facilityto home shops.
  • Work closely with maintenance coordinators to align maintenance priorities andescalate issues.
  • Ability to read, understand, evaluate and verify a wide range of materials andinformation to recognize and correct discrepancies and or areas of improvement asnecessary.
  • Follow and maintain SOPs/KPI’s as necessary.
  • Bachelor's degree in logistics supply chain management preferred, and or in a related field equivalent to logistics or business.
  • Minimum of 2 plus years of experience in shop and maintenance of rail operations or raillogistics coordination.
  • OTMA/Hazmat certification preferred.
  • System savvy (prior ERP experience or Rail TMS/SAP software experience highlypreferred.)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail ensure timely completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and work independently andcollaboratively with a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (strong excel knowledge is required), MicrosoftTeams, Zoom.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Vendor/Client relationship management preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations from AAR, OSHA, and DOT
