Job summary

Lochmueller Group has a great opportunity for an experienced civil engineering and project manager to join our Transportation team as a Rail Project Manager. This role leads rail and rail-adjacent infrastructure projects for public agencies, Class I railroads, short lines, and industrial clients, from initiation through delivery.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in rail engineering or transportation project management, a Civil Engineering degree, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
  • 10+ years of rail engineering or transportation project management experience.
  • PE license preferred but not required.
  • Experience managing complex rail projects for owners, public agencies, or industrial clients.
  • Experience with CSX, Norfolk Southern, or Union Pacific is highly desired.
  • Strong understanding of rail design, construction practices, and applicable regulations (FRA/AREMA).
  • Proven ability to lead project teams and deliver multiple projects on time.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of accountability, professionalism, and commitment to quality.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a Project Manager for rail-focused projects, providing leadership from project initiation through delivery.
  • Managing project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Coordinating and communicating with clients to understand project goals, requirements, and expectations.
  • Leading project teams and delegating work to project staff.
  • Providing technical oversight and guidance related to rail design, analysis, and construction considerations.
  • Taking a lead role in project planning, design, and implementation.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting the professional development of staff.
  • Preparing and reviewing project scopes, fee proposals, schedules, and work plans.
  • Reviewing complete project documents, ensuring quality and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Serving as a technical resource and advisor for rail-related initiatives.
