Job summary

Lochmueller Group is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our Transportation Team. You will lead major transportation projects from planning through delivery, and ultimately support pursuit leadership and mentoring across our offices.

Based in our regional offices in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, or Ohio, you will mentor project managers, advance delivery excellence, and help expand our major transportation capabilities while collaborating across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • DBIA certification is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead transportation projects through planning, design, and delivery.
  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client expectations.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, contracts, and variance management.
  • Apply quality control procedures and risk management practices.
  • Promote project management best practices across offices.

Job description

Lochmueller Group is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our Transportation Team. While initially serving as Project Manager on a variety of transportation projects, this position will ultimately play a key role in expanding our major project capabilities through pursuit leadership, mentoring project managers, and supporting the successful execution of large, complex, and alternative delivery projects. This position could be based out of any of our regional offices in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, or Ohio.

Lochmueller Group is an engineering consulting firm with an emphasis on infrastructure.We provide multi-disciplined services for a variety of public agencies and private entities, including transportation design; water resources design; environmental analysis & permitting; construction engineering & inspection; traffic engineering & transportation planning; surveying; and land acquisition & appraisal. Project Leadership & Delivery:
  • Manage transportation projects through all phases of planning, design, and delivery.
  • Lead project teams in managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client expectations.
  • Oversee project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, contract administration, and variance management.
  • Apply and reinforce quality control procedures, technical standards, and risk management practices.
  • Promote consistent project management best practices across teams and offices.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal teams and clients while ensuring successful project outcomes.
Major Project & Alternative Delivery Support:
  • Support pursuits and delivery planning for major transportation projects.
  • Contribute to design-build and other alternative delivery pursuits by helping develop delivery strategies, execution plans, and team structures.
  • Serve as Project Manager on select design-build, construction manager/general contractor (CMGC), progressive design-build, or other alternative delivery projects.
  • Advise project teams on contract structures, partnering approaches, risk allocation, and coordination with contractors and teaming partners.
  • Help strengthen the firm's capabilities and readiness for increasingly complex transportation opportunities.
Project Management Leadership & Mentorship:
  • Mentor and coach Project Managers and Deputy Project Managers across the Transportation Sector.
  • Share best practices related to project delivery, client communication, financial management, and risk mitigation.
  • Support the professional development of transportation staff through coaching, knowledge sharing, and succession planning efforts.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and delivery excellence.
Business Development & Client Engagement:
  • Lead or support pursuit strategy, proposal development, and interview preparation for transportation opportunities.
  • Provide project delivery insights that strengthen competitive positioning and win strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships as a primary point of contact on assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with market leaders and transportation leadership to identify and pursue growth opportunities.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging delivery methods, and transportation innovations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • DBIA certification is preferred, but not required
  • Extensive and progressive experience managing major transportation projects
  • Experience delivering design-build, progressive design-build, or other alternative delivery projects is preferred
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary project teams
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, and client relationships
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with transportation agencies such as state DOTs, local agencies, and/or transportation authorities
  • Experience mentoring and developing project managers and technical staff is preferred
