Job summary

Herzog is seeking an Assistant General Manager to oversee Caltrain’s Operations & Maintenance functions in San Jose, CA. The role requires compliance with FRA/OSHA regulations, managing a large, unionized workforce, and coordinating training, budgeting, and safety programs.

The candidate should have extensive passenger rail management experience, a strong safety record, and the ability to lead across multiple departments in a demanding, 24x7 environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; may be substituted with 10 years passenger rail experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of management experience in passenger rail operations under FRA.
  • Experience with Collective Bargaining Agreements and work rules.
  • Experience with electrified rail operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the operation and maintenance of Caltrain service property and equipment 24x7.
  • Represent the General Manager when required.
  • Develop and oversee training and qualification programs.
  • Schedule and direct a unionized workforce and administrative team.
  • Ensure compliance with FRA, CPUC, OSHA and other regulations.
  • Oversee O&M contract requirements and regulatory testing programs.
  • Drive safety, security, operations, and maintenance performance improvements.
