Job summary

OmniTRAX Lima Industrial seeks an Engineer/Conductor to oversee train, freight and crew operations, manage switches, couplings, and car placement to support loading and unloading while complying with FRA rules.

The role requires a high school diploma, 2–3 years in train services, ability to read rules, operate controls, communicate with dispatch, and perform duties safely in a fast-paced rail environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 2-3 years of Train Services experience.
• Aptitude in the Transportation field and desire to learn.
• Pass post-offer job and health-related examinations including operating rules examination, vision and hearing test.
• Read, comprehend and comply with published rules, procedures and manuals.
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Write legibly to complete routine reports and other work documents.
• Effective communication and demonstrate interpersonal skills with all levels.
• Demonstrate problem solving and troubleshooting skills resulting in effective resolution.
• Professional integrity and accountability.
• Work in fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operation, and the FRA.
• Move trains safely in yards and over roads.
• Manipulate throttle and brake controls; interprets gauges and controls.
• Operate valves and switches inside and outside the cab, including handbrakes.
• Operate track switches and inspect equipment on cars; use radio to control movements.
• Instruct train crews to couple/uncouple cars and perform minor repairs.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings to ensure rail safety.
• Coordinate execution of railcar switch lists and train movements.
• Communicate with yard personnel using signals or radio protocols.
