Job summary

City of Charlotte seeks an Assistant Director of Rail Maintenance to lead the maintenance of rail vehicles, track, signals, and supporting assets. The role reports to Rail Operations and ensures asset reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance while coordinating with multiple internal teams.

Responsibilities include setting maintenance priorities, managing budgets, and driving continuous improvement across maintenance programs to support daily service and future system growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in engineering, transportation management, business administration, operations management, or related field.
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible rail maintenance or related experience.
  • Three (3) years of leadership experience supervising managers or multiple work groups.
  • Experience overseeing preventive, corrective, inspection, or reliability-centered maintenance programs.
  • Experience using maintenance and budget information to guide decision-making and improve results.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the rail maintenance function across rail vehicles and infrastructure.
  • Oversee preventive, corrective, inspection, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across maintenance activities.
  • Lead workforce planning, training, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Coordinate with operations, engineering, asset management, safety, procurement, and capital delivery teams.
