Job summary

The Scoular Company in Kansas is seeking a Rail Feedgrains Trade Unit Manager to lead the rail freight commercial strategy, profitability, and performance of the trade team. You will oversee day-to-day execution of the strategy, optimize the rail network, and manage risk while growing the team’s capabilities in a dynamic market.

Responsibilities include leading trading decisions, coordinating with stakeholders, and driving cross-functional collaboration to maximize revenue within Scoular’s risk

Qualifications

• College degree in business-related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 6 years of Agri-business and/or merchandising experience.
• Strong understanding of rail freight markets, railroad operations, freight contracts, rail logistics, and agricultural commodity flows.
• Demonstrated record of profitable commercial decision-making and risk management.
• Experience leading teams and developing high-performing commercial talent.
• Exceptional customer service skills and relationship building ability.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a rail freight trading strategy aligned with company objectives.
• Assess freight spreads, basis movements, capacity constraints, and demand to identify opportunities.
• Lead decisions on freight commitments and contracts across key corridors.
• Optimize freight costs while balancing short-term opportunities with long-term commitments.
• Oversee trade unit P&L and cash management with weekly/monthly reporting.
• Provide leadership to the trade team and promote collaboration across units.
