Job summary

CSX is seeking a Freight Conductor to safely coordinate train crews, place rail cars for loading/unloading, and makeup/breakdown trains in or near a yard setting. New hires may receive retention bonuses based on years of service, with initial potential bonuses of $3,000 after year one and $2,000 after year two, subject to agreement terms.

A drug test, medical exam, and background check are required. Training occurs at the Atlanta Training Center with four weeks of paid instruction; relocation

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• One year of related experience.
• High School Diploma/GED.
• Ability to read and comprehend all instructions including operating rules, bulletins, regulatory documents and other written communications.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with railroad and safety rules, FRA regulations, railroad signals and train orders.
• Inspect all equipment on cars prior to departures.
• Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
• Read and understand bulletins, work orders, and switch lists.
• Assist with coupling/uncoupling of cars and operate switches.
• Work with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars and deliver customer service.
