Job summary

HDR in Houston, TX is seeking an EIT Rail to perform railroad engineering and design calculations, developing details with MicroStation or AutoCAD. Work across teams and with various clients in rail, transit, and industry, contributing to feasibility through construction.

You’ll participate in site visits, field assessments, and reviews of calculations, with a path toward PE licensure and growth in a collaborative employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in railroad engineering or rail design.
  • Familiarity with railroad design guidelines, specifications and design criteria.
  • Ability to become licensed as a P.E. or P.Eng. in additional jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform railroad or civil engineering/design calculations and develop design details using specialized software.
  • Review submittals and cost estimates; support project managers during site visits and construction inspections.
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary projects and assist in environmental clearance processes.

In the role of EIT Rail, we'll count on you to:

Perform railroad or civil engineering/design calculations and develop design details using specialized software geometric layouts, writing specifications, developing cost estimates, and reviewing construction submittals.

Work across team-driven environments, across regions, and with a variety of clients that include rail, industrial, terminal, utility, agency, DOT, port, transit, and other industry clients.

Be involved in project activities ranging from feasibility analysis to final design and through to construction phase activities.

Support Project Managers by participating in client and stakeholder visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspections as needed.

Review or check design calculations, estimates and specifications produced by other staff.

Assist in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects, including the planning and environmental clearance process of a project.

2+ years of experience within railroad engineering industry and familiarity with railroad design guidelines, specifications, and design criteria.

Ability to become licensed as a P.E. or P. Eng. in additional jurisdictions through the NCEES or similar.

Experience with railroad, industrial or transit clients.

Construction inspection or construction management experience is a plus.

Desire to mentor younger staff.

Required Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
