Job summary

Kokosing is seeking a Safety Specialist in the Washington area to support field teams by implementing Company and Client Safety and Health policies, ensuring regulatory compliance and railroad safety, and driving continuous safety improvement across projects.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health, 5+ years in railroad safety, and certifications such as CHST, OSHA 30/10 Trainer, CPR/First Aid. Expect long hours on site and travel across job sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Safety and Health or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of railroad safety experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing strategies to reduce injuries and incidents.
• Provide training and education on safety and health requirements.
• Support pre-job safety planning and emergency response planning.
• Lead safety meetings and training programs.
• Conduct safety and health audits and implement corrective actions.
• Assist investigations of injuries and incidents.
• Develop and issue safety correspondence and updates on regulatory changes.
• Identify team members needing training or support to meet safety requirements.
• Coordinate safety programs with subcontractors and third parties.
• Act as point of contact for OSHA and other authorities when needed.
• Monitor railroad safety requirements and right-of-way restrictions.
• Coordinate daily construction activities with railroad operations.
• Monitor crane operations and lifting activities.
• Maintain documentation on safety activities and issues.
• Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions arise.
